AMA Foundation Welcomes New ED Virginia Spitzer

Virginia Spitzer, MA, joined the American Medical Association Foundation (AMAF), Chicago, as its new Executive Director, starting July 3.

With a staff of 10, Spitzer will manage AMAF’s day-to-day operations and provide strategic leadership to advance the Foundation’s mission and vision.

The AMAF has been a leader in healthcare philanthropy since 1950, offering programs that advance public health and medical education. As the philanthropic arm of the American Medical Association (AMA), the world’s largest physician organization, the AMAF has awarded more than $122 million in public health grants and medical student scholarships.

Spitzer was most recently the Executive Director of One In Tech, the foundation for Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), a global membership organization with 165,000 members and 220 chapters worldwide. Her previous leadership roles included: Executive Director, Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, and Vice President of Development for the Chicago Urban League.
The AMA Foundation’s search for a new Executive Director was led by Jill Christie, President, and Mary McMahon, Associate Consultant, Tuft & Associates.
