Nancy Gray Puckett has more than 30 years of experience in association and commercial publishing and in association management.
PUBLISHING EXPERIENCEE
Nancy has held association publishing positions at the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, University of Chicago Press, The Joint Commission, and American College of Healthcare Executives. At ACHE, she served as Vice President of Publications and Director of Health Administration Press. She also worked at Mosby-Year Book, Inc., where she was responsible for editorial development of a wide variety of book and continuity publications.
Nancy was Director of Marketing and Communications at The Society of Thoracic Surgeons from 2003-2012, where she was responsible for creating and implementing integrated marketing strategies across multiple platforms for all of the organization’s activities and initiatives.
ASSOCIATION LEADERSHIP
Nancy has served as Executive Director for three Society-managed organizations—the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STS), Women in Thoracic Surgery, and the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA)—helping each to achieve significant turnaround goals and improved performance. At STS she also served as staff liaison to the graduate medical education and thoracic surgery resident issues workforce. In that role she played a key role in developing, launching, and implementing the Society’s flagship Looking to the Future Scholarship Program, which selects PGY-3 and -4 general surgery residents to attend the STS Annual Meeting. She also was instrumental in the launch of TSDA’s successful Boot Camp program for incoming CT surgery residents.
EDUCATION
Nancy holds a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, and a master’s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago. She served on the Pima County (AZ) Public Library Advisory Board and is an active volunteer in her local library associations.
